The Leadership Camarillo Health Care District Needs

Jordan has dedicated his life to emergency services and health care working as an artificial heart technician, firefighter/paramedic and dispatch manager. In addition to his extensive experience in emergency services, he has led his profession and community through serving as President of the California 9-1-1 Association (CALNENA), Director of the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District (PVRPD) and Vice Chair/Trustee of the Ventura County Employees’ Retirement Association (VCERA).

A Vision For The Future

The Camarillo Health Care District is a valuable and critical resource for the residents of Camarillo and Somis. Reduced federal and state resources in combination with an aging local population create unique challenges that the District is able to help solve. I want to increase visibility and accessibility of the District’s resources to the community we serve. The District would have been invaluable to me and my family as my mother aged but I was unaware of their resources at the time.

Actionable Issues

Drawing on my personal experience navigating my mother's care and my decades of experience serving the community's public safety and health needs, I have identified three priorities to help the District better serve the residents of Camarillo and Somis. These actionable steps will strengthen the District's partnerships, make its governance more accessible to the public, and ensure more families know about the resources available to them before they need them most.

Expand partnerships with local government and organizations

Partnering with local school districts would allow us to reach the “sandwich generation” who care for both their children and parents.

Increase accessibility to the District’s constituents

Board meetings are currently held on Thursdays at 1130 at the Health Care District and there is no routine option for remote attendance or archive for recorded meetings. I would work to move the meetings to a later time in the evening to allow more people to attend in person, add options to attend via video conference and record meetings to post on the District’s YouTube page.

Increase visibility throughout the community

I will work with staff to explore new opportunities to expand visibility throughout Camarillo and Somis.

About Jordan Roberts

Jordan grew up in a house dedicated to emergency services and health care. His father was a firefighter/paramedic and his mother was a pediatric, labor & delivery, and post-partum nurse. At 16 he explored both professions as an emergency room volunteer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. While completing his BA in Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley, he worked as an anesthesia, perfusion and artificial heart technician at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.

Upon graduation from Berkeley, Jordan moved back to southern California where he worked for, a private ambulance company, as an ambulance operator/fire intern with Huntington Beach Fire Department, completed his paramedic studies/certification at UCLA and studied fire technology.

In 2004, Jordan began his service to our local community as a firefighter-paramedic with the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD). Shortly into his career, he broke his hip on the job and transitioned into dispatching at the Fire Communications Center (FCC). Throughout his time in FCC he held numerous positions, including his last assignment as Assistant Emergency Communications Manager. In December of 2025, Jordan accepted a position as Communications Dispatch Manager for the Santa Barbar County Fire Department.

Mission & Values

Jordan is committed to education, leadership and continuous improvement. On top of a demanding career in emergency services, he has found the time to lead in both his profession and community:

CALNENA – President of the California 9-1-1 Association (CALNENA). CALNENA provides education and advocacy for all of California’s 8,000+ dispatchers and 450+ dispatch centers.

VCERA – Vice Chair and Trustee of Ventura County Employees’ Retirement Association (VCERA) where he oversaw a $8.5+ billion pension fund that is funded at 97% and administrative/operations budget of $19+ million.
